Senior Bryce Betterley displayed his BFA showcase on Thursday, March 24 in the Garage Door Gallery at the Holman Arts & Media Center. The show was titled “Lament” and was centered around the experience of grief and loss.
“The show was beautifully executed with an array of oil paintings all connected in artistic style and conceptual meaning,” said Junior Collyn Aubrey.
The painting had many layers showing the complexity of the meaning behind them.
“He plays with nostalgia by using old photographs for the subject and antique frames,” said Aubrey. “I love the way he creates history of his own by representing this subject and putting it through a process of abstraction that gives off a feeling of reminiscence.”
His paintings were an exploration of the relationship between life and loss.
“Some of the paintings so eerily depict expression they leave a lasting impression,” said Aubrey. “Bryce successfully conveys the emotion of lament through his passion for manipulating paint.”
